New Year, New Look!

I am pleased to report that my blog now officially is averaging about 10 views per day! Like, from people in Alaska-not just my mom. (I once got really excited that someone from Hawaii looked at it- and then realized my sister lives there.)

I am attributing this exciting success to my new layout that I have been slowly tweaking over the past month or two. (Hence my last post being Nov something.) I am ready to jump in to a whole new year of blogging now equipped with an organized desktop with all my photos and projects I have been chipping away at over the past few months.

I also am pleased to report that I have made $3.48 from this blog according to my ad sense data.  Once I hit 10 bucks I actually get paid in real money.

(Please do not hesitate to click on my ads at any time.)

My reasons for the changes:

1) It was taking me forever to post, because I had to wait for some mammoth project to be finished, then get all the photos, then rewrite it cus it got deleted....it was the vicious cycle of not-blogging-'cus-I- had-to-do-the-project-to-do-the-blogging-to-do-the-project... I was becoming a slave to the blog, and to the mammoth projects.

2) I don't want the blog to be too focused on one thing. For me, Realistic Renovations is way more than hammers and cheese spreaders that spackle, but all aspects of maintaining a home that so many of us struggle with or need inspiration for.

 3) I would like this blog to reach more and more people of all different walks of life with real life help, humor, and advice.

4) I want to be on the Nate Berkus show one day. (Optional)

The new approach:

  • Shorter, more frequent posts with cute and clever words of advice, gentle nudging and inspiration covering a wide range of relevant topics.
  • Addition and expansion of pages: Like a real website but still a blog.
  • More varied content, more product recommendations and how-to guides.

My hope is that my blog will cover all the various "renovations" that can be had in life-from the inside and out, that scary overstuffed closet lurking in the back hall, to your overgrown backyard to your icky fridge  to how to store cat food, to how to trick your spouse into going to Home Goods.

You will notice several tabs at the top of the blog which will link you to more specific projects, articles and ideas tied to a more specific theme, like Home Organization, Landscaping, Home Staging, etc. I also will be adding lots more product links, tool tips, and more step by step tips for those of you who actually want to do some of this stuff. Or make someone else do it for you.

For those of you who receive posts by email, I encourage you to continue to visit the blog as I will be frequently updating the pages which do not get emailed to you, so be sure to check back often for the new stuff!

Thank you to those of you who have encouraged me thus far, and I look forward to more opportunities to share my ideas and thoughts with all of you in the coming Year.

Here's to 20 page views per day by February 1!
